The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the recent comments made by the Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe. He vowed that in 2027, they will ensure that Kingibe does not win her re-election in the FCT.
Speaking at a recent event which was shared by AIT on Monday, Wike asked Kingibe if she thinks that what happened in the 2023 election will happen again in 2027.
It should be recalled that during an interview with Arise News on Sunday, Kingibe had said that the people of Abuja were not impressed with the performance of Wike.
She said that Wike has been building roads and infrastructure, but has failed to take the needs of the people into consideration.
She had said, “The Minister of FCT is almost acting as governor for the President. Just like people took me on when those roads were commissioned. They said, ‘Madam, you people are celebrating roads in Maitama and the Central District, the bulk of people do not live there. Show me the project where people live.
“That is the difference. It is just like a governor telling you he built some roads, so he doesn’t care what the needs of the people are.
“They (FCT people) have needs. The people are not impressed. At the end of the day, they don’t have water. That fire that happened in Karu could have been prevented if there was water. Any fire tank needed to go all the way to Asokoro to get water, not to mention the fact that there was no access road into the market.”
In his reaction, Wike faulted Kingibe’s comments, and said that Abuja people are happy with what he is doing. He said that if Kingibe thinks she is popular among FCT people, then she should come and win the 2027 election.
He said, “I challenge that legislator, if you’re very very popular, 2027 come and run under Abuja. We will fail you. You think that what happened last time will happen again? You think so? It will not happen again. If you are popular, come and run.”
