Olabode Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, was tragically killed by a nine-year-old male lion at the university’s Zoological Garden on Monday.
This information was conveyed in a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abidun Olarewaju, also on Monday. According to the statement, Olawuyi, who had been overseeing the Zoological Garden for over a decade, was attacked by the lion while feeding them in their enclosure. The statement further explained that despite the efforts of other staff members present to rescue him, the lion inflicted fatal injuries.
Upon receiving the distressing news, the university’s management, led by the Vice Chancellor, promptly suspended an ongoing meeting to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
