VANGUARD
K A D U N A —Leaders of the Northern Traditional Council, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, conveyed to the Federal Government that the escalating hardship, insecurity, poverty, and unemployment, particularly in the Northern region, have reached a critical point where they can no longer prevent the populace from rising in revolt.
Speaking during the 6th executive meeting of the Northern Traditional Council Committee at Arewa House, Kaduna, the Sultan informed the government that traditional rulers, religious figures, and state governors had been endeavoring to pacify the masses and unemployed youths, urging them not to rebel against the political leadership.
He emphasized that the situation has reached a juncture where traditional leaders can no longer suppress public dissatisfaction with government and political figures responsible for addressing the persistent socioeconomic challenges.
The Sultan expressed concern that despite efforts to reassure the populace, there is a risk of losing their trust, which could exacerbate the existing problems. He stressed the urgent need for collective action from leaders to address the grievances and restore hope among the disillusioned populace.
Highlighting the increasing poverty levels among the people, he underscored the importance of acknowledging and tackling the root causes of poverty and insecurity. He also questioned the continuity of socioeconomic challenges despite changes in government leadership, emphasizing the need for introspection and dialogue among stakeholders to find solutions.
