An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the detention of Michael Uduigwome, a 54-year-old man, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on allegations of sexually assaulting his eight-month-old daughter.
Uduigwome, residing on Rasaq Balogun St., Surulere, Lagos State, faces charges of defilement. Chief Magistrate O.A. Layinka, refraining from taking Uduigwome’s plea, directed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal counsel.
The case was adjourned until April 30 for DPP guidance.
Earlier, Prosecution Counsel Insp. Lucky Ihieme informed the court that Uduigwome purportedly committed the offense in October 2023 at his residence. Ihieme alleged that Uduigwome violated his own infant daughter (identity withheld) while she was under his care.
The prosecutor stated that the act contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which carries a penalty of life imprisonment upon conviction. (NAN)
