A Truck driver has been confirmed dead after three articulated trucks had a collision on Ojuelegba bridge in Lagos State.
In a press statement released by the LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, it was gathered that the driver of one of the trucks died from the incident.
He informed that there was a mechanical error from one of the trucks while on motion, leading to the incident which made others crash into it.
“At 0137hrs, LASEMA Response Team encountered a multiple accident which involved three articulated trucks on Ojuelegba bridge, while returning from a recovery operation in Ijora axis of Lagos.
“The multiple accident involved two Shacman F2000 Dangote trucks, registration numbers unknown, laden with sand and a Daf truck, registration number EKY 93 YC laden with chicken feed.
“The Dangote lead truck reportedly suffered mechanical error on motion, while driving in a convoy, resulting in a sudden halt of movement leading to a crash into it from the rear by the second truck (also owned by Dangote) and the Daf truck, while on top speed.
“Unfortunately, driver of the DAF truck, an adult male, who got trapped on impact of the multiple collision, died in the process, while his Truck Assistant escaped unscathed.
“Dead body of the trapped DAF truck driver has been extricated. The corpse has been handed over to SEHMU for onward transfer to the morgue and further processing.
“All affected vehicles have been recovered off the bridge to LASTMA office, Iponri, Surulere. The Ojuelegba bridge has been re-opened for safe and easy vehicular movement. Recovery operation concluded.
“In Attendance: LASEMA Response Team, LRT Paramedics, Nigerian Police, LASG Fire and Rescue Services. No more updates,” the statement read.
