The dormancy of the Osogbo Steel Rolling Company in Osun State for many years despite its privatisation by the federal government has gave room for robbers’ frequent invasion to steal from the domant company.
This is as some robbers were arrested by the Osun State Command of the Nigerian Police in Osogbo.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Ishaq Muhammad, said some of the robbers were apprehended with armoured cables and other items stolen from the company.
After the privatisation policy of the federal government, the hope of the people of Osun was that the moribund steel company would bounce back and contribute to economic growth, especially by generating employment opportunities for the youths. But the hope was dashed as the company has remained inactive several years after the privatisation.
Meanwhile, robbers are taking advantage of the situation to steal from the company which has made residents call for a review of the policy.(Dailytrust)
