WHO SUPPORTS BORNO IN TREATING 6,000 CHILDREN FROM MALNUTRITION

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has supported the Borno state government in treating 6, 000 children from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).

The UN health agency has distributed 60 SAM kits to seven health and development partners in the state.

Presenting the kits to select health partners, WHO Emergency Manager, Dr. Beatrice Muraguri, disclosed: “The distributed nutrition kits are to overcome the challenges of malnutrition among children in insurgency affected communities in Borno state.”

She assured that the kits reach the targeted children suffering from acute malnutrition.

While receiving the 60 cartons of kits, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Human Services, represented by Director, Adamu Usman thanked WHO for the technical support to fight malnutrition among children.

He assured Dr. Muraguri that the SAM kits; are to be distributed to mothers and other guardians in 11 Local Government Areas.

The affected councils included Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Jere, Konduga, Gwoza, Bama, Uba/Askira, Kaga, Gubio, Monguno, Damboa and Mobbar, a border community with Niger.
