ZULUM TO RESETTLE 30 LIBERATED COMMUNITIES, CLOSES IDP CAMPS IN BORNO

The Borno State government, has completed plans for the resettlements of over 30 communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency that claimed many lives and property.

The communities to be resettled include Malam Fatori, Gulumba, Gajibo, Wala, Yamtake, Dalwa, Kekeno, Marte, Kerenoa, Ala and 12 other border communities with Niger and Cameroon.

Unveiling the plans of resettlement, yesterday (Monday), in Maiduguri, at his inauguration by Justice Kashim Zannah, the Governor disclosed: “What makes me the happiest man, is not the start of my second term, but God is granting us peace with security.

“With the restoration of peace, over one million people are no longer living in IDP camps.”

He said that besides the resettlements of communities, he added that a higher number of IDP camps in the 27 local councils, are also to be closed.

According to him, the IDPs are to be resettled in a dignified manner in collaboration with development partners and international community.

Continued; “The IDPs are safely living with their dignity in over 20,000 newly built and rehabilitated resettlement homes,” adding that civil authority, basic amenities and livelihoods were restored.

Zulum noted that he is always happy, whenever he visits 14 liberated communities including Baga, Kala/Balge, Monguno, Gwoza, Bama and five other border communities with Cameroon.

He attributed his happiest moments to return of life in liberated communities and how the people go about their social and economic activities at nights and days.

He noted that this informed him to spend the nights in the Local Government Areas.
