Jutha Gupah,
The Yobe State council, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has condemned the closure of some fuel filling stations and pump price hikes in Damaturu.
According to the Union, President Bola Tinubu announcement of removal of fuel subsidy, led filling stations to raise their fuel pump price from N230 to N345 a litre in Local Government Areas.
NUJ Chairman, Rajab Mohammed, yesterday (Tuesday), in Damaturu, disclosed: “Most of the owners of filling stations in Damaturu and other towns in the state; have created artificial scarcity of fuel.
His words: “They also increased the fuel pump prices by 100 to 200 per cent, depending on the location of the fuel stations to motorists and truck drivers.
“The Union is concerned about the plights of the peace loving citizens of the state.”
He, therefore, called on the security agencies, State government and regulatory agencies, as well as relevant stakeholders to take measures against hoarding of fuel and price hikes.
He warned that the ugly situation could affect the socio-economic activities, including commuting in the transport sector.
