The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have killed 26 fishermen in Ngala Local Council of Borno state.
The fishermen were killed while fishing and fetching firewood in Mukdolo village in the border community of Gambouru/Ngala.
A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Thursday), in Maiduguri that; “When dozens of the terrorists on motorcycles stormed the field, they began shooting sporadically at the fishermen.”
A military source, in Maiduguri also stated that nine among the victims, however, managed to flee with gunshot wounds.
Besides, the source added that three fishermen sustained bullet wounds but the terrorists surrounded 26 of them at gun points.
On how they were killed, “They asked them to lay down. Thereafter, they used their fishing nets and wrapped them before they started torturing them.
“After they became unconscious, they opened fire at them, killing them instantly.”
According to Makama, the bodies of the 26 farmers were later retrieved during a search and rescue operation by troops.
He said that the news of killings was received by the survivors of the ISWAP attack.
The attack on civilians came a week after the troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) intercepted and killed an ISWAP Commander and some of the terrorists during the fighting patrol in Mukdolo.
