The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terror group has freed Dr.Geidam Bulama from captivity in the Lake Chad Tumbus axis of Borno state.
Dr. Bulama was abducted on March 18, 2022, when the terrorists invaded Gubio Township, 85 kilometers north of Maiduguri, the state capital.
A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Saturday), in Maiduguri that during the abduction of the medical doctor, the insurgents pledged to his wife that he will not be killed.
According to him, Dr. Bulama was, however, forced to treat wounded fighters and their families for several months.
Besides the forceful engagement, Makama added: “There were efforts of the State Government and security agencies to release the freed medical doctor,” lamenting that the Dr. Bulama spent 11 months in ISWAP’s captivity.
Meanwhile, Bulama was released in Gubio, before he was moved to Maiduguri where he was reunited with his family.
A military source in Maiduguri, did not disclose whether a ransom was paid by the State government or family members.
