APEX CSO BODY REITERATES VOTES OF CONFIDENCE ON PRESIDENT BUHARI NEW NAIRA POLICY, RAISES ALARM OVER PLOT TO UNDERMINE POLICY.
The Civil Society Organizations Central Coordinating Committee has uncovered a plot to make Nigeria ungovernable and has called on security agencies to be vigilant to nip it in the bud. It accused a group of ten Governors for being behind the plot.
The group which is the highest organ of all civil society groups in Nigeria made this known in a State of the Nation and Save Democracy press conference in Abuja addressed by the National Coordinator, Mr. Obe Agu.
He said the plot included acts to undermine constitutional governance by mobilizing riots in several states if the President refuses to back down on the new Naira policy.
The group identified ten Governor whom they alleged were pat of the plot and called on them to cease the confrontation with the President. They accused the Governors of only working for their self-seeking purpose by insisting on the reversal of the policy.
Further, Mr. Agu dissociated all the Nigerian cilvil society organizations from the plot stating, “We speak as the highest organ of the Nigerian civil society community and we speak because we have the mandate to so speak. Any person who personally attends a protest knowing that the plan is to cause destruction to public infrastructure or buildings housing banks or their infrastructure cannot lay claim to being a member of any of the credible civil society organizations in Nigeria and deserving of our help when the law comes calling.”
The group also called on the Supreme Court to vacate the order stopping the ban on the Naira as the policy was a desire of Nigerians and stopping it would open the flood gates for vote buyers, election riggers, bandits, kidnappers, money launderers and others who are still in possession of illicit cash to continue in their business to the detriment of the country.
The 10 Governors who were referred to as G10 and alleged to be part of the plot include Governors Nasir El-Rufai, Bello Matawalle, Hope Uzodimma, Abdullahi Ganduje, Yahaya Bello, Rotimi Akeredolu, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Nyesom Wike, Douye Diri and Biodun Oyebanji.
The group also reiterated and reinforced the Vote of confidence it earlier passed on the new naira policy of currency redesign and cash withdrawal policy and also on President Muhammadu Buhari and CBN Governor Mr. Godwin Emefiele for their rare courage to initiate and implement these policies.
At the end of the press briefing, the group members numbering about 5000 marched into the street causing heavy traffic lock jam in the Central Area of Abuja with different placards and inscriptions calling on the Governors to back down and stop disrespecting the President and confronting him only because they felt his tenure was coming to an end.
