The Emir of Bama, Alhaji Umar Kyari El-Kanemi has commended troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, 7 Division, Nigerian Army, for protecting the people in his chiefdom in Borno state.
Bama, a border community with Cameroon, was attacked and occupied by the Boko Haram insurgents in 2014, but recaptured by the military in March, 2015.
While applauding the gallantry of troops, yesterday (Friday), in Bama, the monarch disclosed that; “I praised the gallantry of troops for protecting our people in this chiefdom that shares border areas with Cameroon.”
He said that the soldiers have continued to defend his chiefdom against the rampaging Boko Haram insurgents.
According to him, the troops’ gallantry efforts have enabled the people engage in commercial and social activities that were prevented by the over a decade terrorism.
Continued; “Our people would continue to cooperate and support the military in sustaining peace not only in my domain,” adding that this include the border communities of Banki, Gulumba and Kumshe.
“We’re supporting the military and other security agencies to end terrorism in the general areas including border communities in the State,” said El-Kanemi.
General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj-Gen.Waidi Shaibu, appreciated the support and cooperation of the monarch and his people.
He added that El-Kanemi and his people have ensured the troops take decisive actions in curtailing the activities of terrorists in the general area.
He, therefore, assured that the Sector and Army Division, would continue to carry out its assigned responsibilities of routing the remnants of terrorists in Bama Local Council and border communities.
The GOC also assessed the operational posture of troops in the Brigade’s area of operation.
He, therefore, charged them to maintain an aggressive and offensive posture to sustain momentum of ensuring peace.
“There should be all-round defeat of the remnants of the terrorists in Sambisa Forest in Konduga and Bama Local Councils,” he said.
