The Kanuriya Dunyabe conglomeration of the Kanuris in the world lags behind in education, leadership and cultural development in Nigeria and nine other countries.
The multinational association was created to promote peace, unity and progress of the Kanuris across the globe.
This was disclosed, yesterday (Monday), in a communique issued, after a two-day interactive session and prayers led by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, in Maiduguri, Borno state.
According to the communique, the conglomeration meeting agreed on the need to rewrite the twisted history of the Kanuris, so that they could take their destinies into their hands,
“We also emphasized the need for strengthening of relationships and paving ways of promoting the economic, social, educational and cultural development of the Kanuri people,” said the Communique.
Chairman of the Borno Emirate Concerned Citizens (BECC) forum and Seniour Special Adviser to Governor Babagana Zulum, Hassan Zannah Boguma, also said: “We called for unity and collaboration for periodic conferences and cultural festivals to retrace the beautiful cultural heritage of Borno.”
“These will charter a course for a lasting peace and development of the Kanuri people.”
He, therefore, lamented the lagging behind of the Kanuris in terms of economy, education and cultural development.
The participants who were drawn from Chad, Cameroon, Benin, Niger and other dignitaries also observed and recommended on education that: “Encourage the training and development of Kanuri Language teachers,” stating that this will promote the teaching and learning of Kanuri Language at homes and schools.
“Support research and publications in the areas of Kanuri cultural heritage,” adding that sports could also be used to promote the language by adopting the local sport of Jokkor.

On leadership, the communique said: “The meeting agreed to select two representatives each from the six member countries to form part of the governing body at the international level,” adding that there will be one board of trustee member from each country.
The communique noted that the organisation should have an International President, who will always emerge from Borno, while the headquarters of the Kanuri Dunyabe remains in the state with the conduct of conferences on rotational basis among the countries.
On the registration of organisation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Boguma said that the participating countries suggested three names comprising Kanuri Solidarity, Solidarite de Kanuri and Attadamum Kanuri.
