YOBE, FOUNDATION SUPPORT 61 ORPHANS WITH FOOD, N11.37M SCHOLARSHIPS

The Yobe State government in partnership with Qatar Charity Foundation (QCF) has supported 61 orphans with N11.37 million scholarship and stipends complete their primary to university education.

Inaugurating the distribution of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to the orphans, over the weekend (Sunday), in Damaturu, Governor Mai Mala Buni, disclosed: “The primary to university scholarships to the selected orphans across the state will impact and secure their future with improved living conditions.”

According to him, Boko Harm insurgency has affected Geidam, Gujba, Yunusari and Gulani Councils since 2014 with the loss of many lives and property in the state.

Besides the awarded scholarships, N50, 000 each were provided along with the distribution of food and non-food items to the orphans.

He said the Foundation was established to assist the most vulnerable persons in the state

He, therefore, urged philanthropists and other corporate organisations in the country to emulate the Qatar Foundation.

The country desk officer of the Foundation, Shu’aibu Atiku commended the State government for facilitating the compilations of names of orphans into the Foundation’s data base.

“The data base of orphans should be expanded for the Foundation’s support in educating more orphans in the state,” he said.

The Special Adviser on religious affairs, Babagana Kyari disclosed that; “The Qatar Foundation has credited each of the orphans with N177, 000 into their banks accounts.”

Besides, he added that the Foundation also built 32 mosques with the sinking of 132 boreholes across the state.

He, therefore, commended the State government and the Foundation for supporting the vulnerable orphans.
