Policeman arrested, detained over murder as Command commence investigation
Policemen in Lagos State have reportedly arrested a trigger-happy policeman, who shot dead a young man at the Ajah area of the state.
The officers reportedly swung into action when a viral video surfaced online showing how the officer killed the young man, identified as Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah.
It was gathered that the young man had gone to buy petrol when he was gunned down by the police Inspector.
The Daily Trust reported that while the culprit was disarmed and apprehended by his peers, the video showed other personnel of the Nigerian Police shooting teargas to dispel the crowd.
Reacting to the situation via a press release on its official Twitter account, @PoliceNG, and signed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command stated that the officer involved in the shooting has been disarmed and apprehended.
The statement read, “At About 2330hrs of Tuesday, December 06 2022, a shooting incident involving men of Ajah Division, resulted in the unfortunate death of Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah. The officer behind the shooting, an Inspector of Police, was immediately disarmed and has been detained, as a full-scale investigation has commenced.”
It was further gathered that the family of the victims has been contacted about the incident.
“The Lagos State Police Command through the Area Commander, Elemoro and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah has since notified and established contact with the family.
“The Command, while commiserating with the family of the deceased over the avoidable and most unfortunate incident, gives assurances that the already commenced investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting will be brought to a speedy and conclusive end, while equally ensuring that justice is served,” the statement read.
