President Muhammadu Buhari, is presently at the Conference room in Presidential Villa, Abuja, to confer an award to former president Goodluck Jonathan and 43 other prominent Nigerians.
This development is coming 10 days after the president conferred National Honours Award on 450 recipients, making the total number of Nigeria’s national honours awardees 5,341 since 1963.
Of the 450 recipients, six were awarded Grand Commanders of the Order of the Niger (GCON), 55 Commanders of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), 74 Members of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), 77 Officers of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
At the event holding on Friday, 21 October, 2022, the awards will see 16 state Governors, including Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and service chiefs honoured with various awards for their services.
Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service was set up to recognize distinguished public service to Nigeria, either contributions to individuals, state or local community, or the public through excellence in leadership, service, or humanitarianism.
To be eligible, the recipient must be a living Public Official or a private citizen excelling consistently in a given sphere of influence, in good character standing, and must also be at the forefront of service and innovation.
