The Yobe State Ministry of Health in partnership with Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (CHMA) has convened a retreat to mobilize funds and resources implement healthcare delivery schemes.
The two-day healthcare financing policy retreat; targets top political and government officials, and development partners to support stakeholders in financing various healthcare schemes in the state.
According to the Ministry, the implementation of the various healthcare schemes was to achieve Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC).
Besides the mobilization of funds and resources, the retreat was how to support the State and Local Governments deliver healthcare services to the door steps of people.
Declaring the retreat open, at the weekend (Friday), at Tahir Guest House, Kano, the Speaker, Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Bukar Mustapha, said that the retreat was apt with the recent completed healthcare delivery projects by the Mai Mala Buni’s administration.
“Members of the Assembly are working hand in hand with the Health Ministry and stakeholders to achieve UHC,” adding that this could improve the health conditions of people living in rural and urban centres.
Reviewing the healthcare delivery services, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana, noted that within a short period, the State government has initiated various reforms to rejuvenate the healthcare sector.
He disclosed that besides YCHMA and the State’s drugs revolving fund, the Buni’s administration has upgraded four hospitals in Potiskum, Gashua, Geidam and Buni/Yadi to Specialists Hospitals with adequate equipping and health workers.
“The State government had also constructed and upgraded 178 Primary Healthcare Centers in each of the wards across the state,” he said, noting that these were the campaign promises made in 2019.
He added that over 400 doctors were sponsored for their undergraduate training, including 60 doctors for post graduate training.
“There were automatic employment of all indigenous medical doctors and the employment of over 30 non-indigenous doctors,” he said.
The Leader of the Yobe State House of Assembly Hon. Bukar Mustapha while declaring the retreat open at the Tahir Guest in Kano, described the event as apt especially with the recent progress made by the Yobe State Government on healthcare development.
Hon. Mustapha reassured the readiness of the members of the Yobe State House of Assembly towards working hand in hand with the ministry of health among other stakeholders for the attainment of the desired goals.
The Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr Mohammed Lawan Gana, in an overview of the Yobe State Government Healthcare delivery agenda, said the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni has within its short stay in office succeeded in initiating reforms that helped in rejuvenating the healthcare sector.
Dr Gana disclosed that apart from the establishment of YSCHMA and the Yobe State Drugs Consumable Agency (YODMA), the government has succeeded in upgrading four general hospitals of Potiskum, Gashu’a, Geidam and Buni-Yadi to the status of specialists’ hospitals.
He said the administration of Hon Buni has also constructed and upgraded a total of 138 out of the 178 Primary Healthcare Centers at the political wards as promised during the governor’s inaugural speech with requisite health personnel.
