Lagos State House of Assembly on Friday received protesters from Oke-Egan community in Ibeju Lekki area of the State over the unlawful demolition of their houses by an unknown agency thereby rendering them homeless.
Mr. Damilare James, a representative from the Oke-Egan community stated that despite several pleas made to the State Government and assurances from same and Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development that their houses will not be tampered with, yet an unknown agency came to demolish their structures overnight.
“We bought our lands with our hard earned money and got approval before building our houses. We don’t know who gave them the permission to demolish our houses.” He said.
Hon. Lukman Olumoh, who received the protesters’ on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa assured the protesters that their interest will be protected and the issue will be looked into by the House.
He however commended the protesters for staging a peaceful protest and urged their representatives to forward their petition letter to the House for attention.
