The Yobe State Police Command; has arraigned 138 suspects with 72
convictions for committing various offences in Yobe.
The Seventy nine capital offences, were committed in various parts of
state in the third quarter of this year.
While assessing levels of crime detection and control Wednesday in
Damaturu, the Police Commissioner, Yahaya Abubakar disclosed that;
“we’ve made progress in the areas of ‘crime control and public safety’
protect people lives and property.”
He said during the period under review; 160 suspects were arrested for
79 alleged offences in various parts of the state.
According to him, the offences, include kidnapping, rape, armed
robbery, house burglary and theft.
“One hundred and thirty-eight suspects have also been arraigned in the
state at various courts for prosecution,” he said, adding that 72
convictions were made with various jail terms and payments of fines
for committed criminal offences.
He noted that 27 suspects are also standing trial in various courts
across the state.
On 22 other suspects, he said; “Their cases are various stages of
investigation, preparatory to being arraigned in courts for
prosecution.”
He explained that case dairies of 39 suspects have been forwarded to
the Director of Public Prosecution at the Ministry of Justice for
legal advice.
Two (2) motor vehicles were among exhibits recovered in the cases
bordering on Car Theft and other related offences.
Abubakar said that arms and ammunition, were also recovered in third
quarter, including an AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, two fabricated singe
barrel short gun, a pistol and 16 rounds of ammunition.
He therefore; solicited for the support and cooperation of public to
achieve the mandate of police.
