Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state; has distributed food items and
N6.74 million to over 670 returning household refugees from Diffa
province of Niger Republic.
The refugees fled their communities in Mobbar council, during over
decade long Boko Haram terrorism that claimed many lives and property.
While supervising the distribution and disbursement Saturday at
Damasak, the council headquarters, Zulum disclosed that: “We’ve today
(Saturday) distributed food items, comprising tons of grains and
cooking oil to meet their immediate basic needs of life.
“Each of the returning refugee households to Damasak, are each
provided with a stipend support of N10, 000.”
He said that the disbursed cash support; was an ‘immediate urgent
social protection’ for the returning households from Niger.
While inspecting ongoing 1,000 housing project for returning refugees,
he directed the Military to ‘dig and expand’ the trench to protect
Damasak project site and returning displaced persons.
He also ordered the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and
Resettlement (MRRR) to reactivate the abandoned irrigation facilities
along the Kumadugu-Yobe River Basin in Damasak, border community.
“The MRRR should invite engineers on the possibility of reactivating
all abandoned irrigation facilities for the returning farmers commence
dry season farming.
He further disclosed that the Borno State Roads Maintenance Agency
(BORMA); is to assess the extent of damages to the border Kamkura
Bridge linking the neighbouring country, Niger.
Speaking at the Military Task Force Brigade, Damasak, he commended the
gallant soldiers for sustaining their efforts protects people’s lives
and property in border communities.
He appealed to the Brigade Commander; to look also into the
possibility of allowing people to access their farmlands early in the
morning
