The Victims Support Fund (VSF) COVID-19 task force; has delivered
1,827 tons of food and medical supplies to Borno state government for
distribution.
The delivered food items, which comprise 6,137 bags each of rice,
beans, maize, as well as 6,137 each of four-litre kegs of cooking oil
and two kg of salt, are being distributed to 50,000 households in
camps and host communities.
VSF COVID-19 task force targeted 1.56 million Internally Displaced
Persons (IDPs) in camps and host communities of Maiduguri, Dikwa,
Gwoza, Monguno and Pulka, a border community with Cameroon.
Presenting food and medical supplies Wednesday in Maiduguri, the head
of COVID-19 task force, Mrs. Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji disclosed that
critical stakeholders and partners in insurgency affected states; be
provided with medical supplies, including anti-malaria, diabetes; and
sanitizers.
According to her, other delivered medical supplies of masks, gloves,
sanitizers and soap are to distributed in support of the fight against
the deadly virus.
She said that the VSF COVID-19 task force; is closely working with
relevant agencies at federal and state levels to contain the pandemic
from further spread.
She said already, a sensitization package; has been deployed for
nationwide campaigns on the need to observe personal hygiene and
sanitation guidelines.
“Strict adherence to the guidelines is to curtail further spread of
the disease in camps and communities of Borno state,” she said.
“The delivered water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities and
Personal Protective Equipment, are in support of fight against
COVID-19,” she said, noting that the targeted IDPs are currently in
camps and hosts communities.
While appreciating VSF’s support; the Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur,
who doubles as Borno COVID-19 response team Chairman, called on
stakeholders and philanthropists to emulate the intervention of fund
against the virus.
He assured that the delivered food and medical supplies, will be
judiciously utilized and monitored, while distributing them to IDPs
and vulnerable people.
