The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday inaugurated the Local Organising Committee of its 2017 PDP Youth Conference in Abuja alongside the various subcommittees charged with organising the programme. The event which held at party headquarters in Abuja was attended by youths from across the country and chaired by the PDP Director of Women and Youth Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed who stated that it was high time the youths were given more responsibilities within the party and in Nigeria as a whole.
The Head of Department of Youth Affairs in the PDP, Hon. Sam Olowomeye also said that he was overwhelmed by the turnout of youths and rejected the assertion that youths are the leaders of tomorrow, rather saying that their time had come.
Aruwa Ismail who is the North Central PDP Zonal Youth Leader was inaugurated as Chairman of the LOC while popular online voice and Secretary of a PDP group Rethink Nigeria, Barr. Anthony Ehilebo, was inaugurated as Secretary of the LOC.
Other members of the LOC include Youth Leaders from across the country such as Lloyd Owonaro, Aremo Adetola, Mohammed Ilyasu, Thaddeus Irabor, Zaka Sunday, Baba Sakali, Adebayo Abayomi and others.
Renowned PDP online voices also in the LOC included Ogbeide Ifaluyi Isibor, Mustapha Hendry, Adai Edwin Adai, Ndi Kato, Ilemona Onoja and many others.
In a press statement after the event, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee and Lagos-based Political Strategist, Ademola Olarewaju said that the PDP had once again taken the lead in the advancement of the political process in Nigeria by convening for the first time in recent history, a conference for youths to discuss and set the agenda. He noted that the one-day conference to be held in November was historic and reminiscent of the early days of Nigeria where young political leaders took the lead in discussing national issues and putting them on the frontburner.
Demola Olarewaju further commended the PDP under the visionary management of former Governor Makarfi and Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed whom he described as a mother, friend and sister of all PDP youths and promised that the LOC and Subcommittees would deliver a conference that the party and all young people will be proud of. He further called on the media to partner with his subcommittee in public is the event as a way to project youths into the political limelight and on other parties especially the ruling APC to show faith in the next generation of leaders by following the footsteps of the PDP.
