The women have made this year’s Wimbledon an interesting one, as the ageless Venus Williams defeated home girl and British favourite Johanna Konta in straight sets 6-4 6-2. A match that showcased the beauty of tennis, where Venus showed that despite being 37-year-old she still has what it takes to make it into another Grand slam final seven months apart.
Wining this match makes Williams the oldest Grand Slam singles finalist since Martina Navratilova finished runner-up at Wimbledon in 1994. The American, through to her ninth final, won her first Wimbledon title in 2000 and the most recent of her seven major victories came on Centre Court in 2008.
Venus Williams has in turn booked a final in the championships against 14th seed Garbine Muguruza, Muguruza earlier today defeated Magdalena Rybarikova in straight sets 6-1 6-1 in 64 minutes. The last time Muguruza got to the final of this same competition, Serena Williams the younger sister of Venus stopped her from winning the title.
Only time would tell if come Saturday another Williams sister would stop Garbine Muguruza or if Muguruza would revenge her defeat of two years ago.
