Police Recovers Abandoned Day Old Baby In FCT

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has recovered a day-old baby abandoned along the bush path near Crush Rock, behind the uncompleted Red Bricks Market in Mpape.

In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP by the FCT Command’s Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh stated that, “The FCT Police Command wishes to inform the public about the recovery of a day-old baby abandoned along a bush path near Crush Rock, behind the uncompleted Red Bricks Market in Mpape.”

According to the statement, “On January 3, 2025, at approximately 10:00 AM, officers from the Juvenile and Women Care Section (JWC) of the Mpape Division responded to a distress call and discovered the infant wrapped in cloth. The baby was immediately rescued and transported to the Mpape Primary Health Care Center, where medical personnel confirmed the child is in stable condition.”

“Acting on a community tip-off, police arrested the baby’s mother, Khadija Ali. During interrogation, she admitted to abandoning the baby due to her inability to care for the child following her husband’s abandonment.”

“The FCT Police Command strongly condemns this act of child abandonment and assures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals. The baby has been placed under the care of the Department of Social Welfare, while the mother will be prosecuted under Sections 14 and 16 of the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003 upon the completion of investigations.”

“The Command extends its gratitude to the community for their cooperation and urges all residents to remain vigilant.
