Following his well-deserved promotion to the enviable rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun and subsequent deployment to the Force Headquarters Annex Lagos, the newly-ranked AIG Garba Musa Yusuf has taken over the reins of leadership at the Maritime Police Command, Force HQ Annex Lagos from erstwhile AIG Augustina Ogbodo, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

Critical to the economy, industry, and development metrics of Nigeria, the Maritime Police Command Lagos is germane to coordinate the security of the maritime industry. The Command requires an astute, intellectual, gallant, and hands-on Officer with a record of excellent performance to be at the helms of affairs. AIG Garba Musa Yusuf is a round peg in a round hole. Having worked in 5 out of all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, heading some of the best policing training centers, and garnering huge operational experience since joining the Force in 1992, AIG Musa Yusuf is expected to do excellently well in the former no.1 seat of power of the Nigeria Police Force, that is the Force HQ Annex Lagos where he will coordinate all security matters concerning the maritime industry. AIG Musa Yusuf has promised to ensure that one of Nigeria’s biggest cash cows, the Nigerian maritime industry is adequately policed and rid of criminal elements.

Before this role, AIG Garba Musa Yusuf was the Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos; Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command and Commandant Police Training School, Ikeja.

AIG Musa Yusuf holds a Masters Degree in Criminology and Forensic Psychology from Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna, Bachelor of Art Degree in Education from Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, Diploma in Law from Kaduna Polytechnic, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration, Usman Danfodio University, Advance Diploma in Strategic Security and Infrastructure Protection, University of Lagos, Executive Diploma in Private Detective Tradecraft, Elizade University Ilaramokin, Ondo State

Born 1st January, 1966 and hailing from Zamfara State, AIG M.Y Garba enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 18th May, 1992 and had his Cadet Officers’ training at the Police Academy Annex, Kaduna. He has held several operational, investigation and administrative positions since his passing out from the Police Academy and Commissioned as an Officer in October, 1993. He serves in various capacities across the five out of the six Geo-Political Zones in the country. This includes: Divisional Traffic Officer in Shendam Division Plateau State; Divisional Crime Officer in Gembu Division Taraba State; Commander 40 Police Mobile Force, Jalingo Taraba State; Aide De Camp (ADC) to Zamfara State Governor; Divisional Police Officer M/Gari Division, Kaduna State; Divisional Police Officer K/Mashi Division, Kaduna State; Divisional Police Officer U/Rogo Division, Sokoto State; Divisional Police Officer Mpape Division, FCT; Coordinator Community Policing Centre in FCT, Katsina and Kaduna States respectively.

Further, he has served as Commander 41 Police Mobile Force, Damaturu Yobe State; AC Operations Kebbi State Command; Area Commander Bori, Rivers State Command; DC Armament FHQ Abuja; Commandant Police Training School, Ikeja, and then promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and posted as the 41st Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command.

AIG M.Y Garba is an anti-corruption champion and a senior advocate of due process, he is an officer and a gentle man with leadership prowess, high sense of professionalism and has attended so many courses within and outside the country to includes:-Police Mobile Training at Police Mobile Force Training College, Gwoza; Intermediate Command Course at Police Staff College, Jos; Strategic Leadership Command Course, Jos; Community Policing Course at Houston Texas, United State of America; Certificate in Enterprise Security Risk Management; Certificate in Kidnapping and Hostage Survival; Certificate in Safety/Protector Supervisor; Certificate on Protecting Expatriate in Hostile Environments; Certificate on Leading Organization out of Security Crises; Certificate in Body Language; Certified Security Investigator; Certified Community Policing Expert.

He has won several awards and recognitions such as Fellow International Institute of Professional Security; Fellow Institute of Criminological Studies and Security Management of Nigeria; Fellow Institute of Strategic, Public Negation; Fellow Member of Forensic Psychologist; NAOSNP Award of Excellence in Security Management and Training by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP.

Asides his professional accomplishments, AIG M.Y Garba is happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies are Badminton, Football, Table-Tennis and engaging in body fitness exercise.
