Reveal Where Bobrisky Served His Jail Sentence – NBA Tells NCoS
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to provide transparent information on where crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, served his conviction sentence.
NBA President, Afam Osigwe, also urged the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to launch an independent investigation into allegations that Bobrisky bribed personnel of the EFCC and NCoS to serve his jail term outside of a correctional facility.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the NBA stressed the importance of uncovering the truth behind the claims and advised the public to avoid linking prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, musician Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, to the case.
The statement read: “The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) commends the prompt decision by the EFCC to investigate allegations that some of its officers accepted ₦15 million from Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky) to dismiss money laundering charges against him.
“The accusation of bribery to influence charges is alarming. An immediate, thorough investigation is required to determine whether bribes were paid to affect the charges brought against defendants in criminal cases. This will also test the transparency of the investigative and judicial processes.
“The investigation should establish whether Bobrisky or his associates paid any bribes in exchange for the dropping of charges. If any individuals are found guilty, they must be held accountable according to the law.”
The NBA emphasized the need for NCoS to clarify allegations that Bobrisky was allowed to serve his time outside of a correctional facility and provide detailed records on the matter. It called for action against any officials found complicit.
The association also urged the EFCC, NSA, and AGF to investigate further claims that bribes were paid to allow Bobrisky to serve his sentence in a private residence and potentially secure a government pardon.
“We also express concern over allegations involving Femi Falana, SAN, and his son, Folarin Falana (Falz). The claim that they discussed a possible presidential pardon for Bobrisky has been denied by Femi Falana, SAN. We advise the public to avoid drawing premature conclusions about their involvement,” the NBA stated.
The NBA reaffirmed its dedication to justice, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s legal system and called for calm while investigations continue, assuring the public that it would monitor the process to ensure fairness and integrity.
