Japa; I convinced my Wife to let us sell our Child to fund our relocation to abroad —Husband
A 28-year-old man, Uchenna Eziekwe, and his wife, Chineye, have been arrested in Lagos for allegedly attempting to sell their two-year-old baby.
The police report that the couple planned to use the proceeds from selling their child to relocate to Canada in search of a better life.
The couple was apprehended by officers from the Isolo Divisional Police Station following a tip-off from the management of Isolo General Hospital. Uchenna and Chineye had reportedly expressed their intention to sell their baby boy at the hospital.
The hospital staff alerted the police after initially agreeing to the couple’s request.
The couple cited the severe economic hardship in the country as the reason for their actions and pleaded for forgiveness.
“It was a difficult decision, but we had no choice but to sell our baby. We felt it would be better to sell him to someone who can take care of him than to allow him to die of hunger,” Uchenna told journalists.
