Gov Pledges To Construct and Complete the Abandoned Ibom Industrial Park
By Emmanuel Uffot
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced his intention to commence construction works at the Ibom Industrial Park from August this year.
The Governor disclosed this after an inspection of the site for the Park at Itam, Itu Local Government Area.
Governor Eno stated that a physical appraisal of the area was necessary, as the government prepares to begin construction in accordance with the consultant’s architectural plan.
According to him, the project’s development is being expedited by a special committee led by the
Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, who is also overseeing the Ministry of Special Duties.
Governor Eno also disclosed that the committee will present a comprehensive report on the project during the scheduled Finance and General Purpose Committee (FGPC) meeting soon.
He equally emphasized his administration’s commitment to realizing the vision outlined in his ARISE Agenda, adding that he remains dedicated to the development, peace, and unity of the state.
The Ibom Industrial Park which is the brainchild of former Governor Victor Attah, is expected to play a crucial role in boosting the state’s economic growth while opening up employment opportunities for its residents.
“We expect that work will start here in August. I came here today to see the site for myself because the last time I was here there was demolition of structures to pave way for commencement of the project.
“So I came out here to see how we can link what is in the plan that has been put together by our consultant, to the physical structure on ground. I always like to do that.
“You have seen that we have set up a committee made up of all of the ministries that has something to do here, headed by the Secretary to the Government who is also overseeing the Ministry of Special Duties.
“There is need to keep interpreting our ARISE Agenda vision and one of our main points was to work on this Industrial Park by providing water and power here.
“Once we achieve this, we can concentrate development in one area that has been earmarked not by my administration but by the administration of Obong Victor Attah.
“For me, all we want to do is actualize the vision of our founding fathers that falls in line with our own vision because the vision must also fall in line with what we are doing. That’s why we came here to see things for ourselves”.
This move by the Governor is sure to gladden the heart of Obong Victor Attah, who has severally accused successive governments of not looking at the direction of continuing with the Ibom Industrial Park which he mooted but couldn’t put things on ground before the expiration of his tenure.
The Park was to be one of the signature projects of the former governor apart from the International Airport, Ibom Resort and Golf course and Ibom Deep Seaport among others.
