UYO-SUSPECTED killers of a Police Inspector and a Medical Doctor in Akwa Ibom State have been arrested. The Commissioner of Police CP Waheed Ayilara said the suspects would soon have their days in court.
Addressing journalists at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo Local Government Area of the state on Monday, the CP said the suspects are members of the ‘DE bam’ Secret cult who killed an Inspector named Usang Egbe at his residence along Akan Bassey Street, Uyo.
Ayilara further stated that a group of another cultists had invaded Ikot Ekpeyak Ikono village, Uyo L.G.A and killed one Dr. Udofia Sunday Umo. He added, “On 1/1/2024 at about 7:00 p.m. one Blessing Usang Egbe ‘f’ of No. 26 Akan Bassey Street, Uyo reported that a group of boys attacked and shot her husband one Inspector Usang Egbe ‘m’ while they were in the shop. Meanwhile, the victim was confirmed death before reaching the hospital.Subsequently, on the 4th April, 2024 at about 09:00 a.m one Unyime Sunday Umo ‘m’ of Uyo reported that on 21/1/2024, one Timothy Ezekiel; Titus ‘m’, Ukeme Etim Udosen ‘m’, Indomie, Thunder, Stay Cool and so many others who are members of DE bam cult group invaded their family compound at Ikot Ekpeyak Ikono village, Uyo L.G.A and killed his brother one Dr. Udofia Sunday Umo.
‘‘Suspects were arrested and they include One Wisdom Victor ‘m’ aka Naked, one Sunday Joseph Akpan ‘m’ aka Slot, one Isaac Enefiok Friday ‘m’ aka Chapter One, one Ifiok Udo Etim ‘m’ aka Solowise, one Nsikak Joseph Inyang ‘m’ aka Funky, one Uduak Ime Jimmy ‘m’ aka Messi.The suspects confessed to both crimes and mentioned other members of their gang that partook in the terror attacks. Two locally made gun, two bottles containing concoctions suspected to be charms and illicit drugs were recovered from them. Suspects will be charge to court soonest.’’
The Commissioner of Police recalled that ‘‘On 02/05/2024 at about 4:10 p.m., following a tip off, operatives of the Command arrested one Daniel Emah ‘m’ aged 47 yrs of Etinan Local Government Area but resides at Nepa Line Uyo. Discreet investigation led to the recovery of one AK49 Rifle, one SMG Rifle, two magazines, six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunitions from the suspect’s residence. Suspect also confessed to be a member of Viking Confraternity. Operatives of the tactical SWAT team in the Command swiftly intercepted one Toyota tinted Hi ace Bus, White Colour and arrested one Emmanuel Augustine Akpayak ‘m’ aged 27yrs, one Echem Ovurizichi Weneka ‘m’ aged 27yrs, one Promise Udofia ‘m’ aged 28yrs and one Jeremiah Johnson Okon ‘m’ 38yrs.
“Investigation revealed that Emmanuel Augustine Akpayak had arranged for the kidnap and killing of the would-be victim by engaging men on arms and procuring EFCC vest/uniform for the Operation. Victim was invited and a search was conducted at the principal suspect’s house where four pairs of EFCC vest were recovered.Information gathered indicates that the suspect transacted business of selling cars with the would-be victim and owed the victim about Twelve Million Naira (N12,000,000.00), in order to evade the repayment of debt, the suspect hired armed men to kidnap, extort the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N150,000,000.00) and also kill the victim thereafter but the Operation was foiled. Suspects will have their day in court.”
