According to Vanguard, the International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS) recently conducted a two-day training session on criminal profiling for 91 police officers at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos. This marks the second training event organized by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ahmed Lateef since he took office in March 2024.
DCP Lateef highlighted the importance of training for police effectiveness, stating, “For officers to perform well in their various departments, training is inevitable. This is why I always go the extra mile to deploy experts to come and train my men because it has been my utmost desire.”
ASP Uthman Mogaji, SCID Public Relations Officer, explained that the training included 91 officers and six Industrial Training (IT) students. The session featured several expert speakers, including Mr. Gbon Thomas, who differentiated criminal profiling from police investigation, and Mrs. Folashade, who covered social skills crucial for investigators.
Dr. Tunji led discussions on leadership in the security sector, emphasizing the laws of leadership, wisdom, humility, decision-making, and the importance of impartiality and honesty in investigations. The training also touched on pathfinding, victimology, and the necessity of basing criminal profiling on facts, quoting Otega 1999.
