Yobe completes 600-km to link towns, communities for economic development

The Secretary to the Yobe state Government, Baba Malam Wali has said that 500 kilometres of roads are completed in various towns and communities to ease residents’ commuting and economic activities.

According to him, twelve roads have been completed, while six others are ongoing before commissioning them by the end of this year.

Unveiling the completed roads, over the weekend (Friday), at a media parley with journalists, in Damaturu, the SSG disclosed: “With the limited resources at our disposal, we’ve been able to complete the rehabilitation of Katarko-Goniri and Siminti-Godowoli roads,”

He stated that the roads will link and to serve dozens of communities in the haulage of farm produce and livestock.

Wali added that other roads are undergoing rehabilitation work along Geidam-Bukarti, Bayamari-Yunusari and Yunusari=Kanamma roads.

“We are undertaking new intercommunity road construction projects of the Damaturu-

Kalallawa 25.5-kilometer dual carriage way,” noting that the completion will ease access to the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo airport,

According to him, the dualization of Abattoir Junction-New Bye-pass Roundabout along

Potiskum road will also be completed for smooth movement of traffic.

Besides the dual carriage way, Wali added: “We’re also constructing the Damagum-Gubana, Bulanguwa-Kumagannam, Nguru-Bulanguwa, Danchuwa-Garin Abba-Garin Bingel, Chumbusko-Tagali, Nguru Highway-Karasuwa Galu town, Fika-Maluri, Jaji Maji-Karasuwa town and Kukuri-Chukuriwa-Dawasa intercommunity roads, among others. Similarly, contracts have been awarded for the construction of township roads in Damaturu.”

Other ongoing road projects, included the Nguru-Potiskum and Gashua-Geidam roads.

He said that the government carried out the road projects with a view to opening up the communities and adjoining settlements to enhanced socio-economic activities.

Continuing; “To improve the artistic beauty of Damaturu metropolis and give it a facelift, two City Gates have been completed,” adding that two others are ongoing in Damaturu,

“Several township roads and drainages are being provided in various locations within the State capital and most of the local council headquarters.”
