Otunba Gbenga Daniel, serving as the Chairman of the Senate committee on the Nigerian Navy, expressed optimism about the burgeoning partnership between Nigeria and Finland, foreseeing extensive benefits for the nation’s technological, energy, and healthcare sectors.
Sen. Daniel, also holding the position of president within the Nigeria-Finland Association, articulated these views during a reception he hosted in honor of Dr. Kingsley Akinroye, a distinguished Nigerian physician recently awarded the prestigious Knight First Class of the Order of the Lion of Finland by the Finnish government. The event took place in Abuja on Saturday, drawing a significant gathering.
Acknowledging the Finnish government’s acknowledgment of a Nigerian recipient for such a prestigious award, Sen. Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, expressed gratitude, underscoring the gesture’s importance in solidifying the fruitful partnership between Nigeria and Finland.
“The potential for collaboration between Nigeria and Finland is immense,” Daniel remarked. “By pooling our respective strengths and expertise, we can forge impactful partnerships that drive progress and prosperity for both nations. Through collaborative efforts, I believe we can accomplish remarkable feats and shape a brighter future for our citizens,” he continued.
Further elaborating, Daniel, a professional engineer with his engineering firm Kresta Laurel as the exclusive distributor of Finland-based Kone elevators in Nigeria, emphasized Finland’s technological and innovative prowess, aligning well with Nigeria’s aspirations for a thriving tech industry. He highlighted the opportunities for collaboration in information technology, digital innovation, and entrepreneurship, stressing the potential for economic growth and enhanced opportunities for citizens through knowledge and skill exchange.
“Additionally, the renewable energy sector presents significant potential for cooperation. With Nigeria’s abundant solar and wind resources, partnering with Finland’s leadership in sustainable energy solutions and green technology can lead to substantial progress in addressing climate change and advancing environmental sustainability,” he emphasized.
He also emphasized the healthcare sector as a vital area for collaboration, citing Finland’s advanced healthcare system and expertise in medical research as assets to support Nigeria’s healthcare objectives, infrastructure development, and medical training.
The Finland ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Leena Pylvänäinen, echoed similar sentiments, viewing Dr. Akinroye’s award as a testament to her country’s recognition of excellence and commitment to partnering with Nigerians and the Nigerian government for mutual benefit.
