Given the mass promotion that was released by the National Correctional Service,
the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service decorated one hundred and forty-seven (147) Officers with new ranks on Friday 12th January 2024 at the State Correctional Headquarters, Uyo.
The 147 newly promoted Officers of the Command were part of the 4,498 Officers of the Service whose promotion to new ranks was approved by the Hon Minister of Interior, Hon Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa FICMC, MFR, mni.
According to a release by the Public Relations Officer of the Service in the State ACG Richard Metong, the State Controller of Corrections, Akwa Ibom State Command, Julius Ezugwu, thanked the Hon Minister and the Controller General of Corrections for approving the promotions, noting that it has boosted the morale of the Officers for better performance. He charged the decorated Officers to be dedicated, committed, and more professional in the discharge of their duties to earn more promotions.
He further encouraged Officers who missed out on the promotion not to lose hope adding that it would be their turn next time.
In separate goodwill messages from other forces and para – military services that were at the event to fecilitate with the Correctional Service formerly known as Nigerian Prison Service, the Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Olatoye Durosinmi Esq, Sector Commander of FRSC, Matthew Olonisaye, representatives of the State Commandant of NSCDC and Commander of NDLEA, thanked God respectively for His favour on the promoted and decorated Officers, charging them to see their elevation as a call to higher responsibilities, adding that promotion comes from God.
Speaking on behalf of the decorated Officers, DCC Joseph Effiong, in a vote of thanks, expressed deep gratitude to God for His grace on them and appreciated the Hon Minister as well as the Controller General of Corrections for approving their promotions. He further appreciated the State Controller of Corrections whose effort birthed the decoration ceremony, and thanked the guests and dignitaries for making time to attend the event. He pledged their unflinching loyalty to the Service and promised to be more dedicated and professional in discharging their duties in the Command.
