A passenger has been found dead in a Jet2 plane toilet forcing the flight to divert to Ireland.
The man was travelling from Tenerife to Manchester on Tuesday when fellow travellers noticed the cubicle had been locked for some time. After alerting staff, the crew made the devastating discovery and the plane landed instead in Cork.
A spokesperson for the airline disclosed:”Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday January 2, due to a customer requiring medical attention. Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away, despite the best efforts of our highly-trained crew who intervened as soon as they became aware. This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew and we would like to thank them for their efforts. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
A passenger on board explained: “My husband reported someone had been in the plane’s toilet for a long time and he said that he thought he was dead. Tragically he was right. Toilets should be checked more regularly when an event like this happens. If they were, maybe the poor man could have been saved. I heard he travelled alone. Everyone on board was very upset by the tragic circumstances.”
They added: “We should have landed Manchester 8.30pm with diversion to Cork and awaiting another plane from Cork to Manchester got into Manchester at around 1.30am.”
Back in March, a passenger has died on a Jet2 flight to Britain after a desperate attempt by cabin crew to resuscitate him failed when he “didn’t wake up”. The plane coming from Antalya was forced to make an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport with people “crying and really shaken up”, reportedly said one passenger.
Cabin crew members performed CPR on the 44-year-old man for 40 minutes but despite the best efforts of staff, he tragically passed away. “We were around 40 minutes away from landing and the next minute, all the cabin crew started running toward the seats behind me. A man had been pulled onto the aisle and they were trying to give him mouth-to-mouth,” the passenger, who did not wish to be named, narrated.
