Monsur Al-Kadriyar, the father of Nabeeha, the kidnapped victim, stated in an interview with Arise that he became friends with one of the kidnappers and began speaking Yoruba with him.

He recounted that the kidnappers abducted him and his daughters, forcing them to walk for approximately 8 hours and 30 minutes from their residence to the kidnappers’ camp in the bush.

He went on to describe that when he informed the kidnappers about his lack of money, they subjected him to slaps from all directions, and one of them used his gun to strike him in the back.

Additionally, he shared that when he inquired about what they could do to secure their release, one of the kidnappers responded in Yoruba, asking, ‘owo, ṣe e o ni owo,’ meaning, ‘money, do you have money?’

In his words, “I was at their camp when the ransom of a thing came up. That night that we went through the bush, it took us like 8 hours and 30 minutes to walk from my house to the bush. I was not wearing slippers and was only wearing shorts and a t-shirt.”

He continued, “When we were going into the bush, I tried to make friends with one of the kidnappers. I was like, Bros, come, and he started communicating with me in Yoruba. I was like, Come, what do you need? Don’t treat me like this, please. What do you need? And he said, Owo, do you have money? ṣe o ni owo.”
