Akwa Ibom people, redidents and visitors are in for a treat this December up till the end of the year.
This is because in line with its agenda to develop the culture and tourism industry, Akwa Ibom State government has flagged-off activities for the 2023 Christmas celebration.
The State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno performed the flag-off fun-filled ceremony at the Christmas Village, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
Governor Eno who was represented by his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Eno noted that the 2023 Christmas events were going to be different from previous editions, stressing that the park will be opened for 32 days with each of the 31 Local Government areas in the state having a day to showcase their culture and talents.
He said the event is intended to promote and encourage indigenous artistes, create a platform for commerce and other activities that will benefit the State either in the short or long run.
The Governor appreciated the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh with his team for working assiduously to deliver the event and translating the vision to reality.
“I feel so proud to be here. History is going to be made again in our State, for 32 days so many things will happen here and it’s going to be entertainment and celebration at its best.”
Earlier, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Charles Udoh, commended the Governor for the initiative especially, for creating such a large platform to showcase, promote and encourage indigenous artists.
He said the event is well packaged to ensure all round satisfaction for everyone in terms of the variety of cussine, cultural display, comedy, music and lots more.
He used to opportunity to invite Akwa Ibomites and visitors from across the globe to visit the Christmas Park and also savour other tourism sites in the state.
It could be recalled that one week ago, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Mr Udo unveiled both the Christmas celebration Committee and activities lined up for the one month event which officially took off on December 1, 2023.
Also in line with the spirit of Christmas, Governor Umo Eno has approved double salary for civil servants in the state for December. As suchthey will collect 13 months salary instead of 12.
