On a fateful Friday, a tragic event unfolded at Kiandutu police station in Thika as a police officer took her own life. The individual in question, identified as Irene Wangari Migongo, ended her own life around 9:45 am, according to the Commanding Officer’s report.
The distressing incident was brought to light by Officer Peter Muigai Njoroge, who was residing within the police station premises at that time. Njoroge recounted that he was startled by a loud sound originating from Migongo’s residence, prompting him to swiftly inform the Officer in Charge (OCS) about the unusual occurrence.
Responding to the alert, the OCS and Njoroge conducted an investigation that led them to a heart-wrenching discovery. They found Migongo’s lifeless body on the floor, her gaze fixed upwards. Adjacent to her was the steyr rifle, an official firearm assigned to her for the day’s scheduled patrol duties.
Forensic specialists meticulously examined the crime scene, determining that Migongo had taken her own life by inflicting a gunshot wound to her chest, resulting in instantaneous fatality. The rifle, loaded with 19 rounds of ammunition, was subsequently secured for further administrative actions.
The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident remain shrouded in mystery, as law enforcement authorities endeavor to unravel the factors that precipitated such a devastating outcome. Colleagues of the deceased officer expressed their shock, asserting that Migongo had never displayed any discernible signs of stress or emotional turmoil.
In a poignant message posted the previous evening at 8:26 pm on her mobile status, Migongo had shared the words “Because tomorrow may never be mine,” accompanied by the song ‘Sweet bye bye.’ This eerie message provided a haunting glimpse into her inner thoughts.
