Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has ordered the immediate renovation of Gwoza General Hospital amid health facilities’ poor state in rendering services to the people.
According to him, the deteriorating health facilities at the hospital has compromised the quality of healthcare delivery to patients in the Gwoza Local Area of the state.
Zulum gave the order, yesterday midnight of Sunday, in Gwoza, while assessing the state of health facilities at the border area with Cameroon hospital.
Piqued by the poor state of hospital facilities, he said: “This has hampered the efforts of our dedicated healthcare professionals.
“We’re not to trade blames, but find solutions to the deteriorating healthcare facilities in the hospital that serves several communities, including the border areas with Cameroon.”
He attributed the poor state of hospital to lack of electricity and dearth of critical medical facilities and equipment in providing healthcare delivery to patients.
Besides, he added: “Nobody brought to my knowledge the deplorable conditions of this hospital,” stating that he was disappointed with the present state of hospital.
Continued; “It is unacceptable that a critical healthcare facility at a hospital is deprived of basic amenities for electricity and other medical facilities for health workers render services.”
Lamenting the poor state of hospital, Zulum, said: “I will neither exonerate myself nor the Local Government authority.
“We’ve all failed to provide what is needed by the people. However, I want to assure the people that by God’s will, we will fix the hospital,” noting that it will provide a better enabling working environment for the health workers than now.
Zulum has developed the habit of paying surprise visits at odd hours to hospitals and schools to ensure the delivery of health and education services in the state.
The Governor has also been to a number of hospitals at the middle of the night.
He, therefore, rewarded staff of the hospital for working under poor conditions to save people’s lives from various diseases.
“The hospital staff rewards are for being dedicated to duty amid the challenges of rendering healthcare services,” noting that despite the poor state of hospital, they are on ground in providing healthcare.
