NDLEA NABS 141 DRUGS SUSPECTS IN YOBE STATE

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 141 suspects for drug trafficking in Yobe state.

The drugs suspects, comprising 138 males and three females were arrested in the 17 Local Government Areas between July 2022 and June, 2023,

Parading the suspects, yesterday (Thursday), in Damaturu, the NDLEA State Commander, Abdulazeez Ogungboye, disclosed that 27 convictions were secured, while 75 cases of drug trafficking and abuse are at various stages of trials in courts.

He noted that the Agency has remained committed in combating the menaces of illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state.

On the Agency’s seized drugs, he said: “About 304.5kgs of cannabis sativa and 125.5kgs of psychotropic substances were recovered from the suspects.”

He added that 427.95 kgs of tramadol, codeine-based cough syrup, and diazepam injections were seized last year in the state.

Ogungboye, therefore, urged the State government to establish a Drug Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre (DTRC) in the state for drug addicts’ medical care and counselling.
