No less than 100 Boko Haram terrorists have been killed in a coordinated military airstrikes of the Super Tucano fighter jets in the Mandara Mountain, Borno state.
The one week aerial bombardments, were carried out on the fringes of Gwoza Local Government Area, a border community with Cameroon.
A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Monday), in Maiduguri that the precise intelligence led airstrikes were executed between June 9 and 11, 2023 in Hrazah and Wa-Duhwedeh communities.
A military source in Maiduguri, also confirmed that the two communities are the meeting points of the terrorists, before launching their attacks on Gwoza and other border communities.
It added that the airstrikes score accurate hits which resulted in the elimination of a number of the Boko Haram unit commanders.
Makama, added that high valued terrorists were also killed, while others fled with sustained wounds from the bombings.
He said on June 11, 2023, the Air Component carried out airstrikes and confirmed to be successful as many terrorists were neutralized with others in critical condition.
The Air Component also destroyed many structures which served as a safe haven to the terrorists.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall IO Amao, launched the intensive offensive Air operation nicknamed: Operation Warun III, across the Theatres of Operation with the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai as the main focus.
The aim is to soften ground for the surface forces to exploit with a view to facilitating speedy elimination of terrorists and bandits across the country.
