Jutha Gupah,
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said that about 24, 000 families are searching for their loves ones missing during the various conflicts in Nigeria.
According to the Committee, about 16, 000 families are still searching for their missing loved ones in the 14-year conflict in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
Unveiling the Radio Name-Tracing Programme (RTP), yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, ICRC’s Data Analysis Officer, Sadikat Nasiru, disclosed: “In a week, 25 families wanted to find their missing loved ones through our links on a toll free phone number: 0800500040000.”
She added that the target of the Committees was to link 3, 000 missing persons during the 14-year conflict in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, 150 children had been reunited with their respective parents and guardians in the insurgency affected region.
She attributed the challenges of linking the missing persons to inaccessibility of hard areas to reach, as ICRC had to wait for a long period for military escorts.
