The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Ibn Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi has applauded the World Health Organisation (WHO) in eradicating various diseases with technical support to the state government.
According to the monarch, WHO has been working tirelessly with the Borno State government in providing better healthcare delivery services to over 2.5 million people.
El-Kanemi made the commendations, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, during WHO courtesy visit to the Shehu’s palace to mark 75th anniversary of the UN health agency.
“The presence of WHO in the State had brought a remarkable healthcare delivery transformation,” he said, noting that many diseases, including cholera, polio, meningitis and measles were being eradiated in various communities.
Continued; “I wish to congratulate the WHO for reaching 75 years of existence. They have done so many good things to the people of the state that we cannot forget.
“With the coming of the UN health Agency, many diseases were eradicated with the various technical support of the Borno State government.”
The monarch noted that the WHO coordinated with other health partners to deliver essential, lifesaving health services to millions of people.
He said that healthcare delivery services were rendered to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees, women and girls, GBV survivors and vulnerable children in hard to reach areas in the state.
According to El-Kanemi, WHO supports health systems recovery, strengthens and coordinates efforts to prevent and control disease outbreaks in complex humanitarian emergency settings.
He added that the support provided by the global health agency had immensely brought succor to the people of the state.
“Succour was also brought to the people affected by the 13-year Boko Haram conflict, as well as the victims of the 2022 flood disaster,” said the monarch.
Among those who paid the courtesy visit to the Royal Father, El-Kanemi included top government officials from the Ministry of Health and Human Services and the State’s Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA) and other members of WHO in Maiduguri.
