The World Health Organisation (WHO) in collaboration with Yobe State Ministry of Health; has commenced the training of journalists and social media influencers on health behavioral change.
The three-day capacity building workshop was to improve their skills beyond mere informative reporting on health behavior outcomes.
Declaring the training session open, yesterday (Wednesday), in Damaturu, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Primary Health Care Management Board (YPHCMB), Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina, disclosed: “The media is a major partner in the healthcare delivery services in the state.”
He added that the information dissemination is critical in the prevention of various diseases in communities.
The representative of WHO, Kingsley Igwebuike, also stated that the objectives of the training was to increase the preponderance of life-saving information in the media and social platforms.
“They will enable at-risk population to take informed decisions on protecting themselves against disease infections,” he said.
Chima Ocheniba of WHO, presented a paper to the 55 participants on the role of social media including the right and wrong approaches.
He said that these are what the readers and other audience wanted to know about prevention during an outbreak of any disease in communities.”
