The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has started the registration of unemployed youths and women in the 17 local councils in Yobe state.
According to the Directorate, the youth unemployment rate stood at 19.67 per cent, while the national level rose from 3.7% in 2019 to six percent in 2021.
Unveiling the unemployment registration exercise, yesterday (Wednesday), in Damaturu, the NDE Director General, Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, represented by the Directorate’s State Coordinator, Hajiya Binta Aliyu, disclosed: “Today’s registration of unemployed youths in Yobe state is for three weeks, commencing yesterday, April 17 to May 5, 2023.
“The registration exercise will hold at the NDE State office Federal Secretariat, Damaturu and in each of the 17 Local Government Secretariat complexes.
According to her, the required information for the exercise included highest qualifications, local government indigence, National Identification Number (NIN), permanent home address, contact phone number and other requirements for the registration exercise.”
She, therefore, appealed to all unemployed youths in the state to use the opportunity to register themselves in their respective local councils.
Speaking on the unemployment registration exercise, she said: “The Federal Government wants to have a comprehensive statistics on unemployed persons across the country.”
She noted that this could enable governments plan to fight poverty and unemployment among the youths and women.
