INEC TO CONDUCT ELECTIONS IN SUPER CAMPS OVER INSECURITY IN BORNO

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to conduct the 2023 elections in super camps over insecurity in liberated four local councils of Borno state.

The over a decade insurgency affected councils included Guzamala, Abadam, Marte and Kukawa in the north part of the State.

Unveiling the preparedness of the Commission, yesterday (Wednesday), in Maiduguri, the Residence Electoral Commissioner, Mohammed Ibrahim, disclosed: “All the sensitive and non-sensitive election materials have been received are in the custody of the Central of Bank of Nigeria (CBN),” adding that the sensitive materials included ballot papers and result sheets of the elections.

He said that tomorrow (Friday) the materials will be distributed for transportation to far away Local Councils, like Askira/Uba, Bayo and Mobbar.

Besides, he added that elections in the “no go areas” are to be conducted the super camps of Nganzai, Marte, Monguno, Damasak, Doro, Baga and Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Council.

On the modes of Saturday elections, he said that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be employed by 51, 000 ad hoc staff, as the 5,071 acquired BVAS have been configured and ready to conduct and transmit election results.

He noted that the Commission has a backup for the BVAS in case of eventualities in any of the 5, 071 polling units in the state.

In securing the elections materials and personnel, he said: “The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will provide us an air cover in escorting the election materials and ad hoc staff to the super camps of the four hard to reach councils.

Speaking of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), he said that out of the 149, 085 issued cards, 96, 158 PVCs were collected by the 2.515 million registered voters in the state.

He therefore urged the voters to identify and locate their polling units to enable them cast their votes on Saturday.
