Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state is to partner Amity University on the training of academics for the State’s tertiary institutions.
The Indian University that offers 300 postgraduate and undergraduate courses, is to exchange research and technology in agriculture, energy, medicine, engineering and applied sciences.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communications and Strategy, Isa Gusau, in a statement, yesterday (Sunday), in Maiduguri disclosed: “The Indian New Delhi University was established in 2005. It ranks amongst the top univarsities in the world according to the 2016 records.”
According to him, the University runs about 15, 000 research and publications since it was established.
Besides, the President of Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation, Dr. W. Selvamurthy said: “The University offers over 300 postgraduate and undergraduate courses with more than 15,000 research and publications.”
Responding, the Governor noted that agriculture is one of Borno’s priorities, as his administration will focus on training on the post-harvest losses to attain food security for both domestic and industrial uses.
He said that the potential partnership with Amity University will dwell on climate change mitigations that can improve resilience of crops and fight against desertification.
“A technical team from Borno will plan a visit to the University in the first quarter of 2023,” he said, adding that this will formalize collaboration between the University and the Borno state government.
During a power-point presentation, the University also highlighted its activities with possible areas of collaboration with the State government.
The Governor also met with Nigerian students studying at the Amity University.
He, therefore, charged them to be dedicated to their various studies and exhibit good character.
Zulum’s delegation over the weekend to India included Regeh John, of the Nigerian Embassy in India, Ahmed Sanda, and the Governor’s special Adviser on protocol, Adam Bababe, the Executive Secretary of the Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) and Bawu Musami, the SSA on technical matters to the Governor.
