If you are an upcoming independent musicians/artiste I will advice you to make it one of your goals this year to set up your small recording studio within your space. Why?
This gives you access to unlimited recording time which in turn helps you to capture the vibes, the energy, and the emotion of your songs whenever it comes to you without waiting to go to a commercial studio.
Some creative ideas are spontaneous and requires immediate response or else you lose the vibe, the mood and sometimes the melody of the song. That’s why big international artists setup a recording studio in their mansion or basement. You too can do the same.
Another advantage of setting up your own home studio is that it reduces the pressure of having limited studio time or session. When you book a session in a commercial studio, you are creating and recording against time and this can create unnecessary pressure and distract you from the main purpose of creating music, making you to be rushing and overlooking errors in recording thinking it will be fixed in mixing. (Mixing Engineers are not magicians)
Recording at your own home studio also gives you freedom to experiment with different musical ideas without the fear of being criticized or condemned.
Another advantage is that it reduces the financial burden of recording in commercial studios. Recording in a standard studio doesn’t come cheap and that financial cost sometimes can affect the flow of creativity especially for an independent self -financed artiste.
Also, having a studio will increase your quest to learn more about music production and audio recording and this will further make you a better musician. And with the modern technology and innovation, recording and music production equipment are getting affordable and achievable. With your Laptop, hook to a soundcard, connected to the mic you are good to go…
So, if you aren’t thinking in that direction, I think you should consider it.
You can DM me if you want to know more about setting up your studio, the cost , and where to get your equipment (new or used) at affordable rate. Also if you want to learn how to record and produce yourself and others, I’m just a DM away.
