The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Faruk Yahaya has said that regular training of officers and men of the Nigerian Army, will ensure improved military performance in formations across the country.
Yahaya disclosed this, yesterday (Tuesday), in Jos, Plateau State while declaring open; a one-week training workshop for division training officers at headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army.
He said the workshop, themed: “Enhancing Training at Division level for better Operational performance in a joint environment,” was to build the capacities of troops in the various army formations.
The CoAS, represented by the Deputy Chief of Training Army, Maj-Gen. Mohammed Etsu-Ndagi charged the participants to share their experience of their challenges in the Divisional Training Schools.
“This training could also create an avenue for the Divisional Training Officers (DTO),” he said.
He added that the training comprised the sharing of ideas and brainstorming on how best to further enhance training in the Army.
He noted that this was to proffer solutions to the challenges faced by the Nigerian Army.
Responding, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division and Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Maj-Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim said the seminar was to provide a platform for the DTOs to compare notes.
He charged them to come up with the modalities to enhance training in their respective divisions.
Ibrahim added that they are also to fully understand their roles and responsibilities.
According to him, the current security threats requires the up scaling the proficiency of military personnel in overcoming their challenge.
He, therefore, urged participants to take back what they will learn during the training to produce good officers and soldiers.
