The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has pledged to tackle incessant insecurity, poverty and unemployment among the youths in the country.
According to him, there will be single digit rates of poverty, unemployment and inflation by the end of 2023 in the six geopolitical zones.
Obi made the pledges, over the weekend (Saturday), while addressing the people during his Presidential campaign rally at the Ramat Square, Maiduguri, Borno state.
“My people, time has come for all right thinking electorates to vote for the Obi-Datti Movement for the President and vice president of Nigeria,” he said.
He noted that their voting patterns in the forthcoming general elections are devoid of ethnic and religious affiliations across the country.
“I can collectively rescue the nation from the clutches of poverty and unemployment including domestic and foreign debts of over N40 trillion.
Besides, he added: “If you elect me to be your next President, Nigeria will be converted from ‘consumption to productive’ sectors of the economy to earn more foreign exchange.”
He noted that this will create more job opportunities to reduce poverty and the rising rate of inflation that erodes workers’ salaries at the federal and state levels.
According to him, the productivity of the nation’s economy, however, determines the “poverty and unemployment rates” that can be further reduced with an increased value of the naira against other rates of foreign exchange.
He, therefore, urged the electorates to massively vote for LP candidates for the various elective positions in the six geopolitical zones, including the Northeast.
He alleged that for the 23 years of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) misrule, the people were continually subjected to poverty, unemployment and insecurity to their lives and property.
Besides, he added that the ill-gotten public funds still remain in the hands of corrupt and selfish leaders.
“These committed offences would be checked to reposition the country to greater heights of economic growth and development,” he said.
Obi claimed that he was the only presidential candidate that extended his campaign rally to Biu Local Council in the last three days.
He said since Biu, is the Borno south senatorial district headquarters, it will unify the country to become the Nigerian Project for all.
On the new Project, he declared: “We are not going to give any excuse on the Nigerian project commencing 2023.”
“I am not going to recall where you’re coming from or blame politicians for their previous failures to their people, while leading them in various capacities.”
While lamenting the out of school children, he said: “I am to return 20 million children out of schools into classrooms in the 19 northern States.”
The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi demanded Obi to recharge the receded Lake Chad and resume oil explorations in Chad Basin covering about 2.43 million square kilometres.
El-Kanemi said: “You’re to also tackle insecurity, poverty and unemployment among our youths.
“The right thinking electorates are to vote for the Obi-Datti Movement, as their next president and vice president of the country,” adding that voting for the right leader will rescue the nation from the clutches of poverty, corruption and insecurity.
The leaders of LP and its gubernatorial candidate, Capt. Ibrahim Kadafur (rtd) and the State’s party Chairman, Ibrahim Goni Jere; pledged to deliver many votes to Obi in the forthcoming general elections in Borno.
Obi’s campaign rally in Maiduguri included the National Chairman of LP, Julius Abure, an activist, Aishat Yesufu and others members and supporters of the Obi/Datti Movement for presidency.
